What is TooMuchPatentLeather?

My name is Alex and this blog is more of a diary or mood board, expressing my own original thoughts about fashion, beauty, art and what exactly is too much. The title of this blog is like my personal style in that it is ironic- there can never be too much patent leather. Fashion is more than self expression or art, it is a form of communication and this page will be committed to communicating both simple and elaborate conceptual ideas and also opinions. Whenever I place pictures of myself I am not using professional photography tools. I do not own or claim property on any images. Feel free to leave a comment expressing your own opinions and constructive criticism. Thanks for reading!

DirtyHairFashion: When is Grunge Too Much?

Although some dispute grunge as a fluke (because of its early beginnings) instead of a direction of fashion, it can offer some freedoms that a more pristine controlled style cannot. Style is a bitter word, when it comes to fashion originality cannot always be achieved if you state a clear defined style for yourself. I won't go as far to type definitions of grunge, or cheekily claim it is a lifestyle rather than fashion. However, grunge can touch on issues of originality which can form on the pure basis of liking something despite what others think. This attitude transcends whatever sins grunge may gleam on fashion.
Grunge is a a great outlet, but when does it go too far? Clearly a personal question based on opinion, like most issues of beauty, I believe grunge within a certain balance can be as impressive as any of Prada's advertisements that execute control and pristine perfection. Clear, clean skin always sets apart grunge from filthiness; grunge can also be the most misunderstood expression of fashion by common people. Often people talk about how the Olsens look homeless and each time I roll my eyes.
