What is TooMuchPatentLeather?

My name is Alex and this blog is more of a diary or mood board, expressing my own original thoughts about fashion, beauty, art and what exactly is too much. The title of this blog is like my personal style in that it is ironic- there can never be too much patent leather. Fashion is more than self expression or art, it is a form of communication and this page will be committed to communicating both simple and elaborate conceptual ideas and also opinions. Whenever I place pictures of myself I am not using professional photography tools. I do not own or claim property on any images. Feel free to leave a comment expressing your own opinions and constructive criticism. Thanks for reading!

Chemical Destruction: When is it Too Much?

There has been a lot of ethereal connotations in recent trends in fall fashion and normally I would vomit glitter excitement about that, but right now I feeling more constructive through destruction. When is this too much? What is unnatural beauty, and why do so many people not like it? Manipulation of certain key features of a design can choose to flatter or deconstruct and change. Often designers choose to flatter features, but what happens when they are determine to change and construct something new. Destruction is creativity and there are some interesting visual ideas as a result. I love the lip by McQueen,  Ara Jo, and the more practical Marc Jacobs and the most practical out of all of these examples Rodarte.

Moving from the abstract 'artsy' ideas, here are some more real life examples of what I am attempting (probably not so successfully) to communicate. Each of these designers took their design, and for me, destructed some silhouette, pattern or format that is commonly perceived one way and reinvented that idea in a new, novel way with an addition of styling that produces an interesting outcome. Let me know what you think, and thanks for reading!
