I've been so happily obsessed with Winona's character Charlotte in Mermaids. I love every little detail about her, from the fact she used Joan Arc at the gynecologists office as her own name, her inability to understand her own urges, but most of all her determined and earnest dedication to a life of celibacy and purity. The very idea of a life of celibacy seems so funny yet warm, a little shy and even nostalgic. Turtle necks, maxi skirts, muted colors--a life of bliss! I love the gaudiness of the crosses, and St. Mary candles. Love the character Charlotte and her overall development through the story- maybe theres a Charlottes within all of us (but more likely there is a
Samantha). Enjoy and thanks for reading.
